Colchester businesses celebrate success with the Mayor and Mayoress

Local dignitaries including the Mayor and Mayoress of Colchester joined almost a hundred representatives of the local business community at Wivenhoe House, Colchester this week to celebrate enterprise in the town at Colchester Business Enterprise Agency’s (Colbea) 2019 AGP.

Guests included Colchester Business Enterprise Agency (Colbea) stakeholders including sponsors, tenants, clients past and present, and Colbea Patrons, the Mayor and Mayoress of Colchester Nick and Elizabeth Cope. The celebration highlighted clients and Colbea’s achievements over the past 12 months, which include;

  • Launching the Connect with Colbea initiative with the Chelmsford Business Advice Service alongside Chelmsford City Council
  • Winning the Enterprise Engagement Award at the National Enterprise Network Annual Awards
  • Seeing Colbea’s In the Market for Success (IM4S) winners flourish in Fenwick ‘during their’ test trading pop-up shops
  • Winning £32k funding from the Natwest Skills and Opportunities Fund to deliver IM4S 2 and provide the platform for 100 more Essex women to explore the possibility of starting their own business

Among the festivities, Helen Armstrong, Managing Director of Silver Cloud HR was the keynote speaker. Helen, who formed Silver Cloud HR in 2016 and received support from Colbea while expanding her business to work with a number of globally recognised clients, told her story of building a multi-million-pound company within three years.
She said: “It was such an honour to come back to Colbea to talk about my journey. Colbea truly was the reason that Silver Cloud got started. We are very lucky to have such a great resource on our doorstep in Colchester, and one which will go on to help many more business owners and entrepreneurs like me. There is a lot to be celebrated.”
Ashleigh Seymour-Rutherford, Colbea’s Chief Executive, said: “The Annual General Party is an event we all look forward to immensely and it’s fair to say it didn’t disappoint in 2019. I’d like to say thank you to the Mayor and Mayoress for supporting an event which provides a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the fantastic business community we are lucky to be a part of here in Colchester, and to thank those, such as our sponsors and supporters, for helping Colbea to contribute to its continued success through enabling entrepreneurship and business growth.”
